Ashtabula County, OH… Forecasted Arctic temperatures will give us the perfect condition for Ice Wine harvest-the frozen Vidal grapes are really ripe due to the warm beautiful sunny fall weather which makes for good flavorful quality ice wine.”

Ferrante’s 2017 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine was just named Specialty Sweepstakes Winner, one of five sweepstake winners out of 6,700 entries at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Capturing the competition’s top prize in the White Late Harvest/Dessert Wine category.

“The Ferrante Vidal Ice Wine was simply spectacular from start to finish–beautiful aroma, luscious taste, perfect balance, and lingering aftertaste. During the sweepstakes round I could tell that the other judges were as impressed as I was–and for good reason.”  — Jim Trezise, President, WineAmerica and Professional Wine Judge

The cold of Northeast Ohio brings out the sweet nectar frozen on the Vidal Blanc vines in snow laden vineyards located approximately five miles south of Lake Erie.  This creates a microclimate that allows Ohio winemakers to grow grapes and make exceptional ice wines.

We are hoping to produce about 200 gallons of wine. The grapes that are picked average 37-40 brix and will be fermented down to 20% residual sugar.

We invite you to join us for this unique “chilling” experience! Harvest will take place January 22nd around 4am in the morning.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the 17th Annual Grand River Valley’s Ice Wine Festival.  This year the festival will be March 7th, 14th & 21st from 11 to 5pm at participating wineries in the Grand River Valley region.  The festival will include award winning Ice Wine samples, delectable appetizers, great festivities and so much more!  Visit www.FerranteWinery/event.htm.com for more details.
